A Peace Yagam (fire Ceremony) prescribed by Maa-Siddhar Babaji and the 18-Siddhars is going to be performed for the first time in London by Yogi Ram Sunthar and Babaji’s kriya yoga devotees. Yogi Ram sunthar has conducted over 100 such yagams in the past. This yagam is performed regularly at Aavalur Ashram in, Thiruvannamalai (South India).

The Peace Yagam in pictures:

The enlightenment circle, an arm of Saiva Munnetta Sangam (UK), is organising this yagam, through yogic, spiritual and traditional means. This special ritual fire ceremony performed by yogis, sages and kings for thousands of years to achieve world peace, communal harmony, and the general well being of humanity. People of all communities, religions and castes can participate in this event, offering prayers to Babaji and invoke his blessings. A fire is grown in a geometrically designed (yantra), homa pot or homa kundam. Particular deities have particular geometrical shapes (yantra) associated with them.

This yagam will be reviving a tradition that had become extinct.  This is performed before every Kumba Mela Festival, once in every 12 years in the Himalayas.

Yagam falls into two categories:

(1) Peace Yagam: in which the yoga practitioners and the general public can participate. Any one interested can receive a Maha Mantra during this yagam from the Guru.

(2) Yogic Yagam or Anthar Kriya Yogam: is performed by Kundalini-Yoga-initiates only. This is a four-day retreat culminating in initiation into a Bija (seed) mantras.

This Peace yagam will be dedicated to Maa-Siddha-Babaji who lived in Kathirkamam in SriLanka and to the18-siddhas. Babaji was initiated by the legendary Siddha Bogar (Bhoganathar or Bo-Yang-Laotsu), at Kathirkamam approximately around 217AD. Bhogar installed the Kathirkamam murugan idol as he did in Palani South India.

A fire pit Homa kundam will be made and a yagam will be performed.  108 medicinal herbs with high spiritual vibration and nine-pulses or nava-thaniam are offered as part of thanks giving to God who has provided everyone with all kinds of fortunes. For nine hours devotees will continuously chant Babaji’s Maha-mantra to invoke Babaji and the 18 Siddhas. (Maa Siddha Babaji, the 18-yoga Siddhas and karumarip-patti vellai Ananda Swamy (a sage who did not eat or drink anything for 12 yrs and is still alive in Karumarip-patti, Thiruvannamalai-Malai) will bless the Yagam, which is performed as per yogic traditions.)

To start with, lamps will be lit. This symbolises light within each and every individual soul, and then Surya Namaskar or Sun worship followed by Kundalini pranayam and Dhyanam (meditation) to create life-energy (pranic energy) both inside us and in the cosmos. This will be followed by poosai (worship with flowers) and the chanting of the 108 names of our Sat Guru. Then the Yagna fire will be lit symbolising paramathma, the divine. 45 householder couples will take turn and sit around the fire, reciting Babaji’s Maha Mantra and Bija mantra using 108 beads (mala) to send a signal of “unity in diversity”.

This yagam will be a complete spiritual bliss and through the grace of Babaji all living beings on earth will be happy, healthy, peaceful and blissful. In this present age of stress, pain, anger, agony, unrest and disturbance all over the world we will, on mass, pray and send positive vibrations to all suffering humanity throughout the world; with special thoughts to our fellow countrymen in Sri Lanka. This yagam will bring Babaji consciousness to the physical plane, which will bring peace to our self, to our families, our country and finally to the world.

May the world be peaceful!!

May the wicked become gentle!!

May all creatures think of mutual welfare!!

May their minds be occupied with what is auspicious!!

And may our hearts be immersed in selfless love for the lord!!
